Our Week in Review: 28th April – 2nd May, 2014

This week we got up to a bunch of shananigans and I thought it might be helpful to give a whole week’s overview of what we are doing, using this past week as an example.

The rhythm of our week is as follows:

Monday is Baking Day
Tuesday is Lovingkindness Day
Wednesday is Gardening Day
Thursday is School Day
Friday is Chore Day

This week for Baking Day we made our first batch ever of Sourdough Spelt Bread, made with homemade starter culture AND we also had a go at this Peanut Butter Banana Bread (I know, I know, I am obsessed with peanut butter. Not all of our recipes use peanut butter though, I promise).

For Lovingkindness Day we alternate fortnightly between purposefully seeking someone out for whom we may deliver a random act of kindness (RAOK), and picking up rubbish that has collected in the grasses and parks of our local neighbourhood. One week it is a RAOK Day, the following week it is Clean Up Our Neighbourhood Day.  Last week we bought a random Yia Yia a cappuccino and asked her to join us for lunch. This week it was the ol’ tongs and rubbish bag. No picture to show of this, I will have to remedy that in future. As an afternoon activity we played this colour sorting game:

For Gardening Day we put in some structures to support our newly sprouting seeds of peas and beans. Wednesday is also the day that Master C wakes up to a new Sensory Bin, painstakingly crafted the night before by Big Daddy and I over a glass of wine. Our homemade/repurposed Sand & Water table, which lives outside on the deck, is home to our Sensory Bin and this works well since Master C can potter around in the Sensory Bin when he tires of “helping out” in the garden. This week we made a farm themed small world, inspired by this post over at The Imagination Tree.

School Day is the only day each week that we have access to our single family car. The Steiner School that we hope to send both children to for their primary years is nearly an hour’s drive away, so it is a big journey for the boys. We attend the 3 year old playgroup at this beautiful rural school and the commute is definitely worth it in my view.

On Friday, when most people are shouting “Thank God for Friday!”, I am attempting a similar level of enthusiasm for the day ahead: Chore Day :). Here is Master C getting stuck into the vacuuming, and a photo of his cleaning station. For more about how I get the kids involved in the household chores and duties, check out my post on Kids’ chores.
